Ice out 2002

I'm not sure exactly when to call the ice officially out on our pond. We've had a lot of melting and I think there is nothing very solid left at this point, so I call it tonight.

We had the spring's first thunderstorm tonight. It's rained on and off al day. I expect that the rain should green things up a bit. I could use a little more color in the landscape.

Intel inside!

Look like the good folks at Intel have plenty of lawyers.

It seems a non profit sprang up, that teached yoga to prison inmates and juvenile detainees. They call themselves "Yoga Inside", pointing the the fact that they teach it to certain people inside of instiutions like prisons. Evidently this is too much like "Intel Inside", which is a trademark of Intel. Now I grant you that Intel Inside as a fine phrase to trademark. But reaching into the English langauge and suggesting "Noun" preceding "Inside" is an infringement, well that seems over reaching to me. Of course, it's another sympton of a lawyer addled society, nothing more, nothing less.

Now, after a little research, it seems some folks like The Register are reporting this as a hoax for Aprils fools. I'm note sure yet, I'll have to keep digging.

The great bit about this potential hoax is that it seems so plausible.

Arab Israeli Conflict

Well, this weekend has seen an increase in fighting in Israel. Each side was out in the press in full force over the weekend, each explaining how the other side had committed terrorist attrocities that must be stopped. All the while the world watches and wishes these two side would come together for peace and settle this without any more bloodshed.

My proposal for peace.

Since there is 50+ years of attrocity, with no end in sight, consider the peace process permanently broken. Erect large concrete walls between the combatants. Build tunnels so settlers can get around, where a settlement might be stranded. Enforace a no fly zone over West Bank and Gaza so Israel won't make it a shooting gallery. Inspect everything imported for weapons. When the Israelis and the Palestinians want peace let them tear down the walls. Treat the warring factions as children who can't be trusted to play nice together. The Arab states band together to create jobs in the West Bank and Gaza. Maybe casinos.

Or

The Palestinians link arms in non violent protest and march on Jerusalem. My guess is that they would be repulsed with deadly force, bringing in an indignant world to settle things on the ground.

Of course, I don't think these ideas will get any play in the NY Times or anything ...
