Just got the news that Paul Wellstone was killed in a plane crash. Ny Times Obit
My personal political views have never lined up with Wellstone, but I am saddened to see him be cut down this way during a campaign. His voice was extreme, but consistent, and seemed to be born from caring for people. If tilting at windmills can ever be called courageous, then he was lion hearted. I will miss his voice in national politics. I have never heard another politician who seemed so sincere in my entire life.
Thanks for the memories, Paul.
Just so no one thinks I am going soft. Here are three things I intensely disliked about Wellstone.
- Said he would only accept two terms in the Senate. He changes his mind. This was an enourmous mistake in my book.
- Press Conference denouncing the first Gulf War, in front of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
- Accepted a lot of out-of-state, hollywood money for campaigns.
