Paul Wellstone

Just got the news that Paul Wellstone was killed in a plane crash. Ny Times Obit

My personal political views have never lined up with Wellstone, but I am saddened to see him be cut down this way during a campaign. His voice was extreme, but consistent, and seemed to be born from caring for people. If tilting at windmills can ever be called courageous, then he was lion hearted. I will miss his voice in national politics. I have never heard another politician who seemed so sincere in my entire life.

Thanks for the memories, Paul.

Just so no one thinks I am going soft. Here are three things I intensely disliked about Wellstone.

  • Said he would only accept two terms in the Senate. He changes his mind. This was an enourmous mistake in my book.

  • Press Conference denouncing the first Gulf War, in front of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

  • Accepted a lot of out-of-state, hollywood money for campaigns.

Ice in

This is the first morning I have seen ice on the pond.

I can no longer fool myself. Winter is come to Minnesota.

Heard on NPR.

Apocalypso

Endless dance of posturing, diplomacy, and saber rattling, esp. in the middle east.

I made it back. We spent 4 days and 3 nights on the trail around Snowbank. The views were incredible. The terrain was rugged but doable. I am so glad that I had this adventure.

More to come later as I decompress from the trip.

Can't wait for the debacle to unfold.

The weather likely will be against us.

Going camping...

I have a trip planned to hike around Snowbank on the Kekabic trail. Should be peak color, but the forecast is looking iffy at the moment. I am not worried about the cold per se, but I am a bit worried about wet cold weather. I have my pack almost packed, this go round it's a lot lighter. Hope I don't forget anything crucial.
